The owners of this home love natural textures and warm earth tones, so when it was time to redo the master bathroom they really wanted to bring the outdoors in. But nature has so many textures and colors, how do you bring them all together successfully? Blending too many textures can be very overwhelming, especially in a small space – finding the balance is crucial.
So, taking a cue from the nearby quarries and the lovely garden that the windows look out onto, we went with a light gold/green slate for the floor, wainscoting and shower surround. To that we added a flashed Rain Forest granite coutner top for some textural variation and then put in a simple medium cherry cabinet to ground all the textures.
The soft texture of the slate and the warm colors on the wall along with the open shower really make for a warm and approachable space that the owners love to spend time in. The transformation was amazing – but since the original shower surround was a scary mid-70s dark turquoise I suppose we didn’t have that far to go!
